Northanger Abbey - Love

movies i've been watching...

Saw 'Atonement' today. Freakin' amazing!

I've been meaning to read the book for ages but never got around to it. I think I kind of understand Ian McEwan's stories a bit better now. "On Chesil Beach" left me a little unsettled at the end to be honest, but I think seeing Atonement kind of sorted out for me how the author operates and I have a better appreciation for his stories now.

Highly recommend that people check it out!

Books I've Been Reading...

So I've been reading a bit lately while I have been home sick. I love to read but I've been finding it hard to get motivated to read much this year (maybe it is all the extra work I've been doing for university!)

Anyway, I thought I might drop in a recommendation...

Pic from amazon.com

On Chesil Beach by Ian McEwan is a beautiful story. Basically it is about two people in their early 20s who get married in early 1960s England. Both are nervous about the impending wedding night and we learn a little about their circumstances before meeting each other and their feelings for one another. It is a quick read and it isn't full of exciting plot twists, but it is just a genuinely nice story about two normal people and their situation.

Lost - Sawyer/Kate

(no subject)

The last month and a bit have been crazy busy so I haven't been around much :(

Still, now I am finally catching up on all the tv I have missed while I have been doing homework and other boring things! Plus there is lots of Harry Potter goodies to look forward to next month where I will be free to enjoy them :)

fell in love with all things Jane Austen all over again

I've loved Jane Austen's books since I was in early high school, I love the film/tv adaptations, I basically can't get enough of them. So I was super excited about getting to watch the three new adaptations that ITV put together for their Jane Austen Month in the UK.

They redid Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion. I thought Mansfield Park was ok, nothing brilliant but not bad either. Northanger Abbey is not a story I have liked in the past, probably because I can't stand that terrible adaptation that was done in the 1980s, but I really enjoyed this one. The people were so much more likeable and it seemed to flow a lot better. Persuasion is one of my favourite JA books. I freakin love this story. I adore the 1995 movie version and I really enjoyed this version (even though I did think the running through Bath scene at the end was perhaps a little bit much, but I get why they did it). It certainly helps that Captain Wentworth looked the way he did!!!

I recommend people watch them all because they are all very good!

braved retail hysteria and decided i should never do that again

So, Target released a range of clothes today designed by Stella McCartney. There was one really nice jacket that I wanted so I went down this morning hoping I could at least see it, but not expecting to get it. Turns out I was right in not getting my hopes up.

I swear it was like vultures descending on the corpse of a dead animal. The racks were cleared within 10 minutes (and that is being generous). There was pushing and shoving and the store I went to wasn't even that busy! So no jacket for me :(    If nothing else I got a laugh seeing the reaction of the guys who worked at the store, they were standing there with wide eyes, looking at one another in bewilderment/astonishment.

I've always been the person who sits at home eating leftovers on Boxing Day morning, watching the news and laughing at the crazy people who go to the sales and are fighting over a skirt. In future I think I will stick to that plan because today, while mellow in comparison, was more than enough for me!
POTC - J/E

potc:awe - trailer!

The Pirates of the Caribbean : At World's End trailer is going to be released in 1 week!

I can't believe I am this excited about a damn trailer... last time I didn't have this problem because I only saw the first movie the day before I went and saw the second. Everyone was talking about it but I just never got round to seeing it, silly me!

decided to create an lj that I will actually use!

I had one before but I would sometimes disappear for months because of university/work/travel and so never really managed to participate as much as I would have liked.

So here I am, starting afresh. Nothing bad happened with my old one, I just felt like I needed a clean break... kind of like a new year's resolution to change something and you need to let go of the old in order to achieve what you want to with the new. Okay, that sounded like I was making some monumenally huge life decision, which I'm not, but you get the point :)

... the truth of the matter is I was bored with the name itself and kept forgetting the password!!! That and I did an internet studies subject at uni and rediscovered the love I had for online communities.

So, if I have popped up on your friends list and you are wondering who I am, I likely used to hang around before and liked your fic/art/general ramblings about life. Hope you don't mind that I have friended you, I will stop by soon to say hi!

That's it for now :)
